Last Sunday we ended our day at Craven Pumpkin patch to buy our yearly Halloween pumpkins as we have done since the children were very young. I like Craven I suppose because of the great memories we have had there and because of the setting. There are 20 acres of pumpkins, corn fields and a stunning backdrop of the fall trees.

Pike Place Market

Seattle Wa.

Pike Place Market in Seattle is one of my favorite places. Everytime we go we spend at least a few hours walking and browsing at all of the products being sold by the merchants. In the main arcade there is a wide selection of goods such as jewelry, honey, fresh and dried flowers, seafood stands, fruit stands, art and photography, seattle souvenirs, clothing, crafts, food and several other specialty products created by talented artisans. There are also restaurants, one which was made famous by a movie called Sleepless in Seattle, starring Tom Hanks. They shot a scene in the market, including Tom and Rob Reiner having lunch at a restaurant called The Athenian. Pretty cool huh?

On a recent outing to Rialto Beach we made a side trip to a place I have been before and have never forgotten. I went on a long hike on the Hoh River Trail when I was younger and always wanted to go back. The opportunity arose when we were only about 20 miles away in Forks, so we decided to go on the Hall of Mosses hike. It’s only .75 of a mile, very short and no elevation gain. You get a taste of what the rain forest is in a shorter time, but you still have a chance to marvel at the mystical beauty that is draped all around. The moss on the trees cascade from tree to tree, and there is a creek that keeps you staring until you have to move along so that the people behind you can have their turn gaze. The creek is flowing with green plant matter and following the current of the creek. Purely captivating.
